Imperial Guard

IG Hovercraft
For my themed Imperial Guard army, I needed to come up with some Imperial-style hovertanks. The conversions needed to be kept relatively simple, and easy to mass-produce, since I wanted my entire IG army to be mechanised.

Hoverpads
In no way inspired by The Matrix (riiight), I set out to create the hoverpads themselves first.
The components used can all be found in a well-stocked DIY store, I bought my supplies at Bauhaus. :)
I tried out a variety of different colors, and ended up picking the blue one on the right.

Hoverpad arrangement / skeleton
To make the hovercraft look flight-worthy, the pads needed to be spaced somewhat evenly around the bulk. I tried blu-tacking several washers to a clean Chimera chassis, to get a feel for it. I figured I could have 5 pads on each side, 2 at the front, 2 on the bottom, and 1 on the rear hatch.
They were all mounted to plastic-rods, shaped as I-beams.
The track-sections were closed off with plasticard, mounted flush to the sides.
The Chimera itself is now mounted to a home-made detachable flying base, consisting of 10mm clear plastic-rod, and a 60mm round base.

Recoil-dampened Battle Cannon
I the notion that having a heavy-recoil-weapon, such as the famous Battle Cannon, mounted on a hovercraft was a bad idea.
Somehow, the recoil had to be eliminated, or a least reduced.
Inspired by Ground Control 1 Terradynes, and a bit of Unreal Tournament Flak Cannon, I came up with the design you see below.
