Installing and running XenServer on a USB device...

Applies to: Citrix XenServer 4.1, 5.0, 5.5 beta, possibly newer builds as well Problem: Installing and running Citrix XenServer directly from a USB- or flash-drive. This article was posted by Chris Wolf on VirtualizationReview.com....

hi there.

i like to make a note here for XenServer 5.5 with update 2:

After doing:
mkinitrd --with-usb initrd-2.6.18-53.1.13.el5.xs4.1.0.254.273xen.img 2.6.18-53.1.13.el5.xs4.1.0.254.273xen

i also had to move the new initrd-2.6.18-53.1.13.el5.xs4.1.0.254.273xen.img
to initrd-2.6-xen.img

this is because the boot proces uses the shortnamed initrd file.

Hmm, sorry no idea.
I would try asking for help over at the Citrix XenServer community forums, or perhaps some generic Linux forums.

Cheers

It does work with XenServer 5.5.
I still have a problem: after successful boot on the USB key, my SAS controler cannot be seen, so i can't create any SR !
I guess I need an addtional option in the mkinitrd command to create an image including SAS drivers. Can anyone help ?

Many thanks in advance.
